Welcome To |
| Royall Acres Farm was dreamed up and created in 2005 by my two at-home daughters and I. Kameron, Nikole and I acquired our 10 acre place with no real intention of ever being farmers or ranchers. After all, 10 acres isn't enough room to raise cattle, horses or much of anything else, right? None of us were crazy about cattle anyway. They are too big for me to like and too contrary. After careful consideration, we ended up purchasing chickens, rabbits, ducks and 3 doelings. Our first three goats (which we still have) were boer/nubian and boer/spanish crosses. What darlings they were! Lucy, Mae-Mae and Nellie became our favorite critters on the farm. The rabbits became an excessive amount of work and the ducks just ate, ate, and ate some more!!! They were absolute bottomless pits! Our final sale of the quackers was somewhere in the area of 32 ducks, sold to one man! Whew, I wondered if he knew what he was in for!! Lots of quacking and lots of feed! So, after a few mishaps of dealing with different kinds of goats, and a couple of years of experience under our belts, we zeroed in on the Boer. We have learned a lot in these 3 years that we've been in the "goat business", mostly that, we will never know enough! Goats, unlike what we were taught as children, do not eat tin cans. In fact, they are finicky eaters. And they get sick! Scours, coughing, worms, urinary calculi, pneumonia and a vast array of other illnesses. One could never imagine the assortment of ailments a goat can and WILL most likely have over it's lifetime. None the less, we find ourselves absorbed in the stresses, enjoyment and labor of this adventure. We now house mostly Boer goats, a few laying hens and our guardian dogs at Royall Acres. It has been our experience that picking a breed that we love makes everything worth it. Farming for us girls isn't always easy. There's lots of muscle required at times to handle our Buck, Jed as well as the general building (which my sweet hubby normally does!) as well as unloading of feed, loading sick animals in the trailer, etc... But, for some unknown reason, we love it! I sometimes wonder, especially when the wind is howling at 30mph, it's raining or freezing outside, just why we do this? Then I remember....it's what we do. Once goats are in your blood, mind, and especially, your heart, they'll probably always be there. Heck, our's even end up in the house sometimes... but that's another story!!! See "FARM TAILS" and read the story of "Baby, The Million Dollar Golden Goat" Royall Acres Farm is located near the small, country town of Frankston, Texas in rural East Texas. Be sure to stop by anytime you're in our neck o' the woods! We'd love to show you our goats! Give us a call @ 903-574-0467 or send us an email. |
